Which tablet computer should YOU be buying: They are this year's must have... and there's a style to suit everyone?

Best for young children

LeapPad Explorer 2, £68

Aimed at children between three and nine , it comes in pink or blue and with five built-in education games . Besides, the LeapPad does not allow access to the internet — so it is impossible for your child to __________ anything inappropriate.

Pros: The education games are well-designed, the built-in video camera is a fun way to play at being a film director.

Cons: Some of the games are shockingly expensive. And the power adaptor is not included.

Best for teenagers

iPad 4th generation, £399-£659

The iPad is still the market leader, and for good reason. If the teenager in your house enjoys playing computer games, the latest offering from Apple is the one to choose.

Pros: No other tablet can compete with the near one million ‘apps’ available for the iPad. Simple to use, even for those who usually struggle with technology.

Cons: Considerably more expensive than most competitors.

Best for working parents

Microsoft Surface, £399-£559

Tablets are brilliant for leisure — but what if you want to do a bit of work? No tablet can yet compete with  a full-size lapTOP computer, but  this is the only tablet  that allows you to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint  and you  can buy a pretty lovely mini- keyboard for typing letters and emails, which also doubles up as the cover.

Pros: The Surface is good for watching movies — a bonus when stuck in the airport on a business trip — and surfing the internet.

Con: The keyboard is an expensive add-on - cosplayting up to £109. It might be cheaper to buy a lapTOP .

Best for bookworms

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, £109

Nearly all tablets let you download books. It's a great way to take a mountainous pile of hardbacks on holiday without stuffing your suitcase.

But most tablets have a shiny screen — which can be very distracting when you're trying to read. The Paperwhite is different: its matt screen and crisp black lettering imitate the look of words on paper brilliantly. And yet you can still read the words in the dark.

Pros: Easy on the eye, excellent battery life, 180,000 free books plus hundreds of thousands more to buy.

Cons: No TV, films, games, internet or camera.

Classified advertising is that advertising which is grouped in certain sections of the paper and is thus distinguished from display advertising. Such groupings as “Help Wanted”, “Real Estate”, “Lost and Found” are made, the rate charged being less than for display advertising. Classified adverti百度竞价推广ents are a convenience to the reader and a saving to the advertiser.

The reader who is interested in a particular kind of adverti百度竞价推广ent finds all adverti百度竞价推广ents of that type grouped for him. The advertisers may, on this account, use a very small adverti百度竞价推广ent if it were placed among larger adverti百度竞价推广ents in the paper. It is evident that the reader approaches the classified adverti百度竞价推广ent in a different frame of mind from that in which he approaches the other adverti百度竞价推广ents in the paper. He turns to a page of classified adverti百度竞价推广ents to search for the particular adverti百度竞价推广ent that will meet his needs. As his attention is voluntary, the advertiser does not need to rely too much extent on display type to get the reader’ s attention. Formerly all classified adverti百度竞价推广ents were of the same size and did not have display type. With the increase in the number of such adverti百度竞价推广ents, however, each advertiser within a certain group is competing with others in the same group for the reader5s attention. In many cases, the result has been an increase in the size of the space used and the addition of headlines and pictures. In that way, the classified adverti百度竞价推广ent has in reality adverti百度竞价推广ent. This is particularly true of real estate advertising?

72. All of the following facts are advantages of classified adverti百度竞价推广ent for advertisers EXCEPT that______________.

A) classified adverti百度竞价推广ent charges less money

B) it is easier to attract the attention of the target consumers

C) it provides more information for the readers

D) it does not have to rely too much on display type

73. One of the examples given of types of classified adverti百度竞价推广ent is

A) houses for sale

B) people who are asking for help

C) people who are lost

D) job vacancies

74. Why have classified adverti百度竞价推广ents changed in appearance?

A) Because people no longer want headlines and pictures.

B) Because real estate advertising is particularly truthful now.

C) Because the increase in the number of such adverti百度竞价推广ents means they have to be small now.

D) Because there are more adverti百度竞价推广ents now and more competition among advertisers.

B. Choose the words or expressions and complete the passage

The universities are schools of education and research but the main reason for their existence is not in the knowledge taught to the students or in the opportunities for the economic or social development resulting from the research findings.

The true function of a university is that it keeps the _____75______ between knowledge and the real life. It unites the students with ordinary life in a creative way. The university passes on information, but it conveys the information imaginatively. Imagination is the driving force for the society’s future development. Students’ imagination is the very spirit every university should protect and encourage. A university which ____76____ to do so has no reason for existence. With imagination, knowledge is not only knowledge: it includes all possibilities. It’s no longer a ____77____ on students’ memory. It’s food for thought and material for creative inventions.

Imagination is not ____78____ knowledge. Instead, it is a way leading to more knowledge. It works by thoroughly studying the current knowledge and then exploring every possibility about the knowledge. In the exploration, new knowledge takes shape. Imagination enables men to construct a new vision of the world and it adds excitement to life through endless possibilities. Imaginative people are restless all along.

Youth is imaginative and if the university can help preserve this precious wealth, the power of imagination can ___79_____ changes the world. Besides, it should also be made clear that imagination won’t be most effective without necessary experience. The problem of the current world is that those who are imaginative have only little experience while those who are experienced have weak imaginations. The solution left for the universities is to hold together these two factors for the whole human race to____80____ greater development and happiness.

C. Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words

As further proof that you can now 3D-print anything, a company called Natural Machines has introduced a 3D printer for food.

The “Foodini”,as it’s called, isn’t too different from a regular 3D printer, but instead of printing with plastics, it prints eatable ingredients squeezed out of steel capsules:“It’s the

same technology,” says Lynette Kucsma, co-founder of Natural Machines, “but with plastics there’s just one melting point, while with food it has different temperatures and consistencies .Also, gravity works a little bit a________ us, as food doesn’t hold the shape as well as

plastic.”

At the Web Summit technology conference in Dublin, the Barcelona-based startup is

s________off the machine, which it says is the only one of its kind capable of printing a wide range of dishes.

“In fact, this is a mini food manufacturing plant shrunk down to the size of an oven,” Kucsma said, pointing out that at least in the initial stage the printer will be targeted mostly at professional kitchen users, with a consumer version to f________.

In principle, the Foodini sounds like the final laziness aid: press a button to print your food. But Natural Machines is quick to point out that it’s designed to take care only of the difficult and time-consuming parts of food preparation that discourage people from cooking at home, and that it promotes healthy eating by requiring fresh ingredients prepared before printing.

Nevertheless, the company is working with m________ food manufacturers to create

pre-packaged plastic capsules that can just be loaded into the machine to make food, even though they assure these will be f________ of preservatives, with a shelf life limited to five days.

The printing process is slow, but faster than regular 3D printing. Other than being capable of creating complex designs, the Foodini can be useful for recipes that require accuracy and skillfulness, like homemade pizza or filled pasta.

Currently, the device only prints the food, which must be then cooked as usual. But a f________model will also cook the preparation and produce it ready to eat.

The i________ also comes with a social element too. “There’s a touch screen on the

front that connects to a recipe site in the cloud, so it’s an internet-of-things, connected kitchen appliance,” said Kucsma. Users will also be able to control the device remotely using a smartphone, and share their recipes with the community.

D. Answer the questions

Have you been to zoos? Have you watched circuses? We see animals in zoos and circuses and treat then as trained friends. But could these lovely animals still survive in the wild? The French director Thierry Ragobert tried to give us the answer in his new movie Amazonia. In the movie, a little monkey called Sai experienced a journey back to nature.

Sai was born in a circus and raised by human. All he knew was to perform and make people laugh every night. However, his life turned upside down one day. After a plane accident in South America, the little monkey found himself in the jungle. He was chased by eagles and got sick by eating some unknown plants. Fortunately, another monkey saved him from danger. Sai joined the wild monkeys and soon found that he was so different from the others. He had no skills of hunting and fighting because he had never lived in the wild before. Sai began to learn from the other monkeys since then.

This movie was released on the Chinese mainland. It is the first 3D movie in history where all roles are played by real animals. The leading role Sai together with other roles in the film were well-trained animal stars from Brazil’s national zoo. The director sent the animals into the wild and filmed trained animal stars from Brazil’s national zoo. The director sent the animals into the wild and filmed their real life. “I want to know if trained animals can find their survival instincts.” Ragobert says, “I expect this more as an experiment than a film.” People can also see how human activities hurt the Amazon jungle in the movie. It reminds people how and what man took from natural world. The director also says he wishes that seeing nature will help peple think about protecting its beauty.
